Let Your Skin Shine Without the Shiny

Let Your Skin Shine
Without the Shiny

By Kristin Heather

Everyone wants to shine, but nobody wants
shiny skin. So, we blot; we exfoliate; we avoid
products with oil. It makes sense, right?
Well, what if I told you that it is the opposite
of what your skin needs, especially
when you look and feel greasy? What if
I told you that using oil-based products
counter intuitively allows your skin to balance
and lose that shiny look? I am here to
offer a new perspective on oils and your
skin, which is why all organic products are
full of natural oils.
Your skin needs movement in both directions,
in and out, to be healthy, clean, and
protected. It needs to get waste out and
bring nutrients in. Do you know what system
in your skin works to move in and out?
The oil system! Stimulating and balancing
the natural oil flow creates hydration and
detoxification. Oils get waste, dead cells,
and any type of microbes that have been
stuck in the skin out, while they work as
carriers for nutrients to absorb in.Oil is
critical in creating motion and is absolutely
crucial in having forever-young-looking
skin. Oil works to heal acne and helps avoid
wrinkles. Oil is amazing for your skin! Finally,
I said it!
So, why all of the oil free talk? In attempting
to heal skin, some believe that breaking
down the epidermis (the outer layer of the
skin), thinning and drying it out, will yield
more balanced skin. “If you have acne or
oily skin, stay away from products with
oil!” People get trapped in this mentality.
They get trapped in a cycle that dehydrates
and irritates their skin.
Exfoliation is another issue. Scrubbing,
polishing, and peels run rampant in the
skincare world. If you can shed the epidermis,
then new and beautiful skin will surely
take its place, right? In my opinion, if your
skin is not shedding naturally and junk is
trapped in the pores, then there is a deeper
problem. It could be that
you are using the wrong
products, and it could
also be that you need
more oil in your skincare.
When you avoid applying
oil on your skin to
make it less shiny, your
skin reacts in the exact opposite
way than you had hoped.
It goes into panic mode and
starts to overproduce oil (sebum)
fast. But, this erratic oil is
sticky, looks greasy, and is more
prone to hold waste and debris,
which leads to more irritation,
blackheads, blemishes, fine lines,
and damaged skin.
Surprisingly, your skin actually
needs good oil to fight this bad
oil.Once you are giving your skin
enough hydration through oils, it will
balance and no longer need to create
the unwanted greasy substance. This concept
is why all organic productsare based
with healthy oils that nourish the skin.
They allow detoxification and act as carriers
for the other nutrients and healing
herbs in the products to penetrate the skin.
The overall result is a balance that protects
against acne, premature aging, and other
skin issues, but also tones and makes the
skin glow.
To stimulate skin repair that rids the skin
of bacteria and toxicity, and also allows the
skin to absorb healing ingredients, focusing
on the skin’s oil system is the place to start.
It may be counterintuitive, but treating the
skin with plant-based oils will create balance
and avoid overproduction of sluggish
sebum that manifests in irritation like acne
and blackheads. Your skin wants its oil…it
needs its oil.Get out of the oil free mentality!
Your skin, shining without the shiny,
will thank you.
